Mickey:  LBE
Mickey is a QH Gelding, out of Pat’s Stallion, Casper and mare, Presto.  He made his debut at the 2003 Savvy Conference and is pictured on the Parelli 2004 Calendar (April).  At first he was given to me to play with when my levels mare, Tess, became ill but soon it was apparent that we were meant to be.  We got a long so well they gifted him to me!    What a blessing!  He’s been my main partner ever since.  We have so much fun together!!  He is truly a crack up!  He has more personality and character than any horse I have ever met and being an LBE, he is constantly playing and never misses a chance to make me laugh.

When I first got him he was all over the Quadrants, extreme in both LBE and RBE quadrants as well as displaying tendancies in the LBI and RBI quandrants.  As Linda said, Mickey was Quad polar!  In fact, if you’d like to get a peak at him “before” he is on the “Difficult to Read Horse” segment that Linda does on DVD #4 in the Liberty and Horse Behavior Course in a box.

Now, through the brilliance of the Parelli program many of the tendancies in the other quadrants have become more mild or even dissappeared and he remains mainly an LBE!  Mickey has taught me to have a sense of humor!

Tonka

Tonka:  LBE
Tonka is an Appaloosa mare, yes 100% Appaloosa,
that I bred and started myself.  She is very much an LBE as well as an adrenaline junkie but with a bit lower spirit than Mickey.  This mare is easy to misread because her need to move her feet is not as extreme as Mickey's and she displays some LBI tendancies as well!

Until a short while ago when Linda helped me in a lesson I had thought her more LBI and was using those strategies, and not getting very far.  She was getting more cranky by the minute, until Linda helped show me how to deal with an LBE on adrenaline.  This looks very much like RBE behavior but the strategies are totally different.

Since then, I have been addressing the LBE qualities and supporting her curiosity and play and the change has been dramatic.  Linda and Pat say you have a 50/50 shot at the right stategy, if it does work try the other.

When I get it right her curiosity and playfulness come out and there are no limits to what we can accomplish.  She has taught me the value of taking my time and always doing it for and with the horse, not to the horse.   You cannot “make “ a Left brain horse do anything, psychology is the key.  While she challenges me to find ways to balance play, obedience and motivation, I look forward to the journey.

She usually travels with Mickey when I teach so I am sure you will meet her sometime.  She is quite large, you can’t miss her!

Kota

Kota - LBI
Kota is a 2.5 yr old Rottweiler, or affectionaly referred to as RottSmiler!  She is a LBI with bursts of extroverted behavior when she is motivated.  Now being a predator, that's not too hard, but her innate characteristics are to ask, "Why should I (come, sit, stay, etc)?  What's in it for me?"  Thank goodness she's a predator and is motivated by praise as well as treats.   She is a love and hasn't met a stranger.  She spends everyday with the horses and I think they even believe they have another predator in their herd besides me.
